Trumpeter Enrico Tomasso with Jonathan VintenTrio

Prices from:

£10.00 ( Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded)

Enrico departs a little from what he’s done at the Myers Studio in the past and uses the quartet setting to take you on a journey through the history of jazz trumpet with ‘The Trumpet Legends’.  Of course Louis Armstrong is the main character in this exposition but who influenced him and where did they get their inspiration.  Then after Louis exploded onto the jazz scene who was influenced by him and where did the lines of development go?  Bix Beiderbecke became the foundation of a completely different style and approach to jazz.  His main instrument was the cornet and was influenced by the classical impressionists like Debussy as you can hear in his piano compositions.  You could argue that he was the first cool jazz player setting the scene for the fifties style of west coast such as Miles Davis and Chet Baker.

Ask any big band fan who the greatest trumpeter was and they will say Harry James.  He was at the commercial end of the big bands in later years but was prominent in the swing era as a great all round trumpeter.  His biggest influence was Bunny Berigan who was instrumental in the development of big band brass phrasing.

There will be many more names mentioned in this musical discourse of the trumpet.

Lineup: Enrico Tomasso (tpt), Jonathan Vinten (p), Tom Wheatley (b), Bobby Worth (d)
