During an illustrious career that has spanned over sixty years, Peter Purves has become one of the country’s most popular presenters and actors, having appeared on our television screens in more than 2500 programmes. These include the golden age of Blue Peter between 1967 and 1978, with John Noakes, Valerie Singleton and Lesley Judd, over forty episodes of Doctor Who, with the original Doctor William Hartnell, and last year Peter celebrated his fortieth anniversary as TV presenter and commentator of the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts.

Shackletons Carpenter

Shackleton's Carpenter, Harry McNish, was the only man who challenged The Boss on the Antarctic ice floes.

Shackleton's Endurance sank in Antarctica, leaving the 28 strong crew stranded. McNish, brilliant carpenter and shipwright, defied Shackleton, but his skills played an absolutely vital role in saving the entire crew.

For all his bravery and ingenuity, McNish was one of the very few who were never awarded the Polar Medal. Now, alone and destitute, one still night on the dockside, he challenges him one last time.

As a champion of the exciting and brave world of left hand alone repertoire beginning in the 19th century and developing through Paul Wittgenstein following the First World War with Strauss, Ravel, Britten and other composing left hand alone concerto’s.
